Project consisted of building a new safety area for Runway 11L to come into compliance with FAA standards and a new Run Up Area for Taxiway “A”.
Major items of work on the project performed by KTI included embankment of 857,888CY, including 340,000CY of select fill from designated borrow sites. The majority of the embankment material was obtained from two borrow sources designated by the airport. A large portion of the borrow material was long haul (3/4 mile each way) and included crossing a major traffic thoroughfare of which KTI provided signalization.
A major component of the work was construction of a 26,250SF Reinforced Soil Slope which included 140,000CY of Select Fill and over 180,000SY of Geotextile Reinforcement and installation of topsoil filled Geocell on the face of the slope.
Placement of 6,700TN of Aggregate Base Course Class 6 was placed for construction of a new perimeter road and 2,300TN of P-209 Crushed Aggregate Base Course for the new Run Up Area.
KTI also installed 1,666LF of RCP Storm Sewer and 700LF of underdrain.
